In a Library Journal article yesterday, Too Late or Just Right? OCLC, I-Schools Announce Reference Extract Web Search Project, a new search engine project was announced. This goal of this project is to create a “more credible” web search experience through the expertise of librarians.
It would work like this, “users of Reference Extract would enter a search term and receive results weighted toward free sites most often used by librarians at thousands of institutions.”
The project is currently funded by a $100,000 grant, and has a blog. It will be interesting to see where this ends up.
